FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to see puffins? The best time is from May 15 to August 15, when puffins are nesting in Iceland.
Do we definitely see puffins? We do our very best, and most tours during puffin season include sightings. However, puffins are wild birds, so we can never guarantee them. Later in the summer, many puffins leave their nesting grounds. That’s why our tours also highlight other incredible wildlife, such as sea eagles, cormorants, kittiwakes, seals, and the unique nature of Breiðafjörður.
What should I wear? It’s always a little chillier out on the ocean, even in summer. We recommend bringing a warm jacket or overcoat, as well as a hat and gloves/mittens to stay comfortable.
Are there life vests onboard? Yes, there are life vests onboard for all passengers in case of emergency. It is not necessary to wear them during the tour.
Is it safe for children? Yes, our tours are family-friendly and suitable for all ages. Children especially enjoy the sea angling trips!
Do I need a fishing license? No. No license or qualification is required to fish with us.
Do I need to bring fishing rods or equipment? No, we provide all the gear you’ll need.
Can I keep the fish I catch? Yes. We can fillet the fish for you. You may cook it yourself if you have facilities at your accommodation. If not, we can check with local restaurants to see if they can prepare it for you (for a small fee).
Is the boat open or enclosed? Our boats are half open / half closed. You can sit outside to enjoy the view or move inside if you prefer shelter from the wind.
What happens if the weather is bad? Safety is always our top priority. If the weather is unsafe for sailing, we may need to cancel the tour. In that case, we will do our best to reschedule you or provide a full refund.
Where do the tours depart from? All tours depart from Stykkishólmur harbor. You’ll receive detailed meeting instructions in your confirmation email.
Do I need to book in advance? Yes, we recommend booking in advance to secure your spot, as tours often sell out, especially in summer.
