About Us!

Our Roots in Stykkishólmur

Ocean Adventures was founded in 2017 in Stykkishólmur, a small fishing town on the edge of Breiðafjörður Bay. From the very beginning, our dream was to create something more than just a tour company. We wanted to open a window into the life we live every day – a life shaped by the sea, the islands, and the wildlife that surrounds us.
Our family has lived and worked with the ocean for generations. Fishing is not just a profession here, it is part of who we are. When we started Ocean Adventures, it felt natural to share that connection with others. We knew that visitors to Stykkishólmur weren’t just looking for a boat trip – they were looking for an authentic experience, a chance to meet locals, and to feel the spirit of this place.
Every journey we offer is deeply personal to us. We take pride in welcoming guests aboard as if they were friends, showing them the same islands and fishing grounds that mean so much to our own family. The sea has always been at the heart of our lives, and through Ocean Adventures, it has become the heart of our business as well.

A True Family Business

Ocean Adventures has always been more than a company – it is truly our family’s way of life. Our two daughters are growing up by the harbor and often join us on board, learning the same love and respect for the sea that has been passed down for generations. For them, the boats, the islands, and the seabirds are not just part of a summer job – they are part of their childhood.
Guests often notice their curiosity and excitement, whether it’s helping with small tasks on deck, proudly pointing out puffins, or simply laughing and playing on board. Having them close reminds us why we do what we do: to preserve and pass on this way of life, not only to visitors but also to the next generation.
Running Ocean Adventures together as a family means that every decision we make, every tour we design, and every guest we welcome reflects who we are. We don’t just invite you to take part in a trip – we invite you to step into our family’s story, where work and life flow together with the tide.

A Life At Sea

For Hreiðar, the sea has always been more than just a place of work – it has been his second home. Born and raised in Stykkishólmur, he grew up surrounded by fishing boats, salty air, and the rhythm of life by the ocean. From a young age, he followed in the footsteps of generations before him, learning the skills of a fisherman and developing a deep respect for the power and beauty of Breiðafjörður.
Today, Hreiðar is a licensed captain and engineer, with decades of experience at sea. He knows the waters, the currents, and the fishing grounds of the bay like the back of his hand. His calm presence and professionalism on board make guests feel safe, while his passion for sharing Icelandic nature makes every trip memorable.
What truly sets Hreiðar apart is his ability to connect with people. Whether it’s guiding seasoned anglers to the best fishing spots or pointing out wildlife to curious first-time visitors, he brings both expertise and warmth to every journey. For him, every tour is not just about where the boat goes, but about creating moments that guests will carry with them long after they leave Stykkishólmur.

Behind the Scenes

For Hulda, the ocean is just as deeply rooted in her story as it is in Hreiðar’s. Coming from a long line of fishermen and shark hunters, the sea has always been part of her identity. Her father often said she became a full-fledged fisherman at just six years old, because she insisted on joining him on the boat whenever she could – and he proudly let her. Those early days out on the water gave her not only skills, but also a lifelong love and respect for the sea.
With a background in rural tourism and digital marketing, Hulda brings together tradition and modern vision at Ocean Adventures. She is the creative force behind the guest experience, shaping everything from the way tours are presented to the small details that make visitors feel welcome and cared for.
Her role extends beyond planning and organizing – she is also often on board, sharing stories, welcoming guests, and making sure everything runs smoothly. Hulda’s dedication is clear to anyone who knows her: she sleeps with the company phone by her bedside and sometimes answers emails in the middle of the night, simply because she wants every guest to feel looked after.
This mix of seafaring heritage, professional expertise, and genuine care is at the heart of what makes Ocean Adventures more than just a tour company – it’s a family story that guests are invited to be part of.

Why We Do This

For us, Ocean Adventures has never been just a business. It is our way of life, woven into every day we spend on the water and every guest we welcome aboard. The sea provides us with both work and joy, and through our tours, we get to share that with people from all over the world.
What drives us is the chance to create real connections – between visitors and nature, between families and the sea, and sometimes even between strangers who leave as friends. We don’t aim to be the biggest company; we aim to give the most personal experience. That is why our groups are small, our captains are always family or close friends, and every detail of your journey matters to us.
When you join us, you’re stepping into more than just a tour. You’re stepping into our story – a story of fishermen and families, of seabirds and islands, of laughter on deck and quiet moments watching the horizon. It is a story we’re proud of, and one we hope you’ll carry with you long after you leave Stykkishólmur.
